ROSEWOOD

HISTORY

SHORTLY AFTER

PROHIBITION…

General Distillers has a huge portfolio of brands including Briar Mint, Number 30 and Kentucky Nectar. The earliest liquor ads for Rosewood began popping up in San Fernando and Los Angeles in 1939 which listed the bourbon as "Lewis Hunter's Rosewood" for $.97 a pint.

By the 1940s the Rosewood brand did expand outside of California in areas like Washington, D.C., Knoxville, TN as well as Louisville, KY. By 1953 newspaper ads listed the product as having changed from 93 to 86 proof to "insure a milder drink" with the tagline: "Try it straight or in your favorite cocktail and enjoy Kentucky Bourbon at its best."

CINEMA GLORY

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. It tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence.

Rosewood Bourbon is what Andy was drinking as he waited out front of Glenn Quintin’s house that fateful night. The bottle was dropped and left on the property, later implicating him for a double homicide he did not commit. He would later give up drinking as a result.
